Former Cadet: Colonel Chris Hadfield

Did you know that retired Canadian Astronaut, Colonel Chris Hadfield was a cadet?



Hadfield was a member of Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron 820 Milton Blue Thunder which was later renamed to 820 Chris Hadfield Squadron.

In a 2018 tweet, Chris Hadfield was quoted saying "(Air) Cadets helped turn me into the astronaut I became. It's where I learned self-discipline, leadership, and how to fly."

There are many more amazing Canadians who have gone through the air, army, and sea cadet programs. Stay tuned to hear about the people who got their start in life as a cadet!

The cadets explored historic landmarks, visited museums, and shopped at local retail outlets. Who was Lawson Drake?

 Who was Lawson Drake? Lawson Drake, is a former cadet from Rcscc 23 Kent. In July of 1947 Chief Petty Officer Drake was chosen as one of only twenty-five sea cadets from across the country to represent Canada on a visit to the United Kingdom as guests of the Navy League of England. They crossed the Atlantic ocean on aircraft carrier, H.M.C.S Warrior and spent six weeks abroad. The cadets were able to tour around the UK visiting tourist attractions like Big Ben, Edinburgh Castle, and Kings Cross Station.  Touring around the UK! While in the United Kingdom, the cadets got paid. Since they were in the UK they received their payment in Pound Shillings. Cadets on Pay Day! To this day, cadet from Rcscc 23 Kent receive opportunities to travel the world. In 2015, we took a weekend trip to Halifax. Duke of Edinburgh Awarded to Former PEI Sea Cadets!

 Two former PEI sea cadets have been awarded the Duke of Edinburgh! Eddie Zhao from Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 23 Kent in Charlottetown, and Grace Smith from Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 85 Summerside in Summerside are the two recipients. To earn the prestigious award, Eddie and Grace have both completed over 200 hours of community volunteering, 180 km of walking expeditions , plus countless hours of cadet training which include activities such as biathlon, fitness, and leadership training. About the recipients: Grace Smith Grace was a member of Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps 85 Summerside and worked her way up to become her corps' Coxswain, which is the most senior cadet of a sea cadet corps.
