Former Cadet: Rear Admiral Luc Cassavi

Did you know that former Commander of the Canadian Defence Academy, Rear Admiral Luc Cassavi, was once a cadet? RAdm Cassavi was a member of the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets before joining the Canadian Armed Forces in 1983. When Cassavi was a teenager he struggled to find a place where he fit in. That was until he found sea cadets. The core values of the cadet movement and the mutual respect amongst its members created an environment where Cassavi could thrive. After leaving cadets in 1983 to join the Canadian Armed Forces, RAdm Cassavi served in many roles. In 2011, he departed to the United States to continue pursuing his education. On his return to Canada, he served as Deputy Commander Canadian Fleet Pacific, Director Canadian Submarine Force, Chief of Staff Plans and Operations for Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific, CO CFB Esquimalt, and Director General Naval Strategic Readiness at National Defence Headquarters.   Volunteer Opportunity: Navy League Branch Committee Each Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps has an associated Navy League Branch working behind the scenes to support the efforts of the training staff. The Branch manages a variety of items to ensure the corps activities can run smoothly, including fundraising initiatives and community liaison. We are currently seeking volunteers to join the Board to support our unit.
